UFPPC has developed contingency plans for public demonstrations regarding Congress's upcoming votes on the resolution authorizing military strikes on Syria.[1] -- Please take note, spread the word, and join us! -- DON'T ATTACK SYRIA! ...
1.
WHAT: Contingency plans for demonstrations on Syria
WHO: United for Peace of Pierce County (WA)
WHEN: 5:00 p.m. the days the House and Senate vote
WHERE: In front of the Federal Courthouse, 1717 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
United for Peace of Pierce County has developed some contingency plans re: "taking it to the streets." Come out and let your voice be heard.
If Congress votes "No" on Obama's proposal to attack Syria, we'll meet downtown to celebrate. We'll meet the same day as the vote, at 5:00 p.m. in front of the old Union Station, currently the Federal Courthouse, 1717 Pacific Ave, Tacoma. Bring signs registering your thanks to your Rep and Senator(s) if they have voted "No." Or your dismay or anger or whatever if not.
If the House or the Senate votes "yes" on Obama's proposal to attack Syria, we'll be meeting THAT DAY at 5:00 p.m. with signs and our voices (and whistles?) to register our dismay in front of the old Union Station, currently the Federal Courthouse, 1717 Pacific Ave, Tacoma. We'll also be there THE NEXT DAY at 5:00 p.m.
Another group has called a "Vigil to Oppose Strikes on Syria" for today, Monday, September 9, at 7:00 p.m., at Occupation Park (So 21st & Pacific). Bring signs and candles.

ALSO: We have several opportunities this coming week for you to voice your opposition to an attack. We're thinking that there is probably enough interest and energy out there in the extended peace community that at least a half dozen people could get downtown to hold a large banner on an overpass over I-5 everyday from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., until the danger of such an attack is over or the attack happens. If you could do it one or two days in the next week, would you write to Sallie Shawl at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ; she will keep a running list, and if we have enough people for that day, she'll write back and let you know. Please include your cell number when you write to her, because she may need to communicate with you that way on the day you're coming.
The freeway banner reads: DontAttackSyria.com. We'll be at the D Street/McKinley Ave overpass over I-5 (right by the Tacoma Dome), and some days we may choose to be on Pacific Avenue and South 21st as well, IF enough people come out and we can be both places.
Remember to write to Sallie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you can help with the freeway banner any day this week. We can't do this alone.
