UFPPC will cosponsor an important event in Tacoma on Sat., Feb. 8: a joint presentation by nationally known whistleblowers Jesselyn Radack and Thomas Drake at the Washington State History Museum.  --  While this event will be free to the public, it involves considerable expense, and on Fri., Jan. 10, at the Tacoma Urban League, we're having a fundraising party to help raise money to defray some of the expenses of the event.  --  So please put these events on your calendar, and help us spread the word about them.  --  See below for more information on these events.[1] ...

THIS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER:  On Friday evening, January 10, 2014, we will be having a fundraiser to help us with the significant expense of bringing two whistleblowers from Washington, D.C. to Tacoma (including air fare, accommodations, and extraordinarily reasonable honoraria -- not to mention venue rental and publicity).   See below for who is coming in February, and we expect you'll want to help make it happen.

Join us on the 10th. We're putting together a fun evening with appetizers, wine, the option of watching some or all of the Robert Greenwald film "War on Whistleblowers" (including popcorn), live local entertainment, including Tacoma's Poet Laureate Lucas Smiraldo, a gaming table (not gambling, but some sorts of games), door prizes, possibly a silent auction of political/peace & justice memorabilia from the closets and attics of aging-hippie activists, and last but not least a good-time/community-building party.

THEN, on Saturday evening, February 8, 2014, former NSA Senior Executive turned NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake, along with former ethics advisor to the Justice Department Jesselyn Radack who is also a whistleblower, will speak in Tacoma at the Washington State History Museum.  Both Drake and Radack are featured in the Robert Greenwald film "War on Whistleblowers."  (More about them below.)  Their presentation is entitled:

MORE ON JESSELYN RADACK AND THOMAS DRAKE

JESSEYLN RADACK, 42, is a former ethics adviser to the U.S. Dept. of Justice who turned whistleblower when she disclosed the FBI’s ethics violations in the investigation of John Walker Lindh, denied an attorney in the aftermath of his capture during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan.   An honors graduate of Brown University and Yale Law School, Radack is now director of national security and human rights at the Government Accountability Project, an organization devoted to supporting whistleblowers.

THOMAS DRAKE, 56, is a former senior executive of the National Security Agency as well as a decorated veteran of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.  When Drake turned whistleblower, the U.S. government threw the Espionage Act at him and threatened him with 30 years in prison.  Drake rejected several deals because he refused to “plea bargain with the truth,” and the U.S. Dept. of Justice eventually dropped all ten of its original charges.
