WHO: Aziz Abu Sarah, Palestinian peace activist
WHEN: Sunday, May 31, 2009 -- 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: Hillel at the University of Washington, 4745 17th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA
[From Linda Frank]
This promises to be a truly extraordinary event. The event is sponsored in part by Brit Tzedek v. Shalom, Seattle, which is part of a national organization that calls for a negotiated route to a viable two-state solution to the conflict. I received permission from Brit Tzedek Seattle Prez. Rainer Adkins, who sent me the invitation, to forward it to you.
All best, Linda Frank
P.S. -- After some delay at the Egyptian border (and Egypt's turning away of about 100 Europeans, including parliamentarians), three more CodePink delegations just today got into Gaza to deliver medicine and sports equipment for Gaza's children. An additional CodePink delegation of 70 will knock on the closed Egyptian border on May 28. Four months after Israel's attack (and now going on two years), Gaza's borders remain sealed to most foods, medicines, and fuel -- as well as to all building materials. We must endeavor to get the borders open. President Obama last week told Israeli PM Netanyahu the sealed borders aren't contributing to prospects for Israel's longterm peace. Netanyahu, in that meeting, not only pressed for a timeline for attacking Iran, but made it clear Israel will continue building illegal colonies [settlements] in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. And not only will Israel continue increasing the size of existing colonies (by a now-approved 73,000), they announced (on the eve of Netanyahu and Obama's meeting), that they will proceed with a brand new settlement. Netanyahu also refrained from agreeing to a two-state solution.

AZIZ ABU SARAH: KEEP HOPE ALIVE!
Two Peoples, Two Stories...
Finding The Turning Point for Israeli-Palestinian Peace
SUNDAY, MAY 31, 6:00 p.m.
Hillel at the University of Washington
4745 17th Avenue NE, Seattle
"I believe that if you're not doing something, then you accept reality, and if you accept reality, then you agree with the fact that the only solution is for us to keep killing each other. It's hard for me to understand how you can accept something like that. One should do whatever he or she can to change the situation. Even if there is a tiny bit of hope, I think it is better to try to do something than sit there and do nothing."
Aziz Abu Sarah is a Palestinian who has spent the last ten years working as a peace-building practitioner, and is a Senior Research Associate for the The Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution, at the Center for Conflict Analysis and Resolution of George Mason University (directed by Rabbi Marc Gopin).
He has been the Palestinian chairman for the Bereaved Families Forum in Israel-Palestine, a group of 500 Israeli and Palestinian Bereaved Families who work for peace. Aziz is also a co-founder of Al-Tariq Institute, which runs projects in the West Bank for democracy, non-violent education, and civil society. He co-hosted "Changing Directions," a bilingual radio show at All for Peace radio for three years, interviewing people who made a change toward peace. He has an educational background in Biblical studies and professional background in tourism management.
Presented by Brit Tzedek v'Shalom/the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace Greater Seattle Chapter, with the support of Hillel at the University of Washington.
