Do you feel a growing concern that the expanding war in Afghanistan and Pakistan will derail the hopes that Obama's election brought us? Are you yearning for alternatives to the surge that foster peace?
Please come to AFGHANISTAN: GIVING PEACE A CHANCE on Wednesday, MAY 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, Yesler and 17th Avenue South.
The speakers:
* Tamim Ansary, grew up in Afghanistan; commentator for numerous publications. Author of Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes (PublicAffairs, 2009) and West of Kabul, East of New York: An Afghan American Story (Picador, 2003).
* Cabeire deBerghe Robinson, assistant professor of International and South Asian Studies at the University of Washington; has worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and conducted research in Indian Jammu and Kashmir and in Pakistan on political movements, armed conflicts, refugees, human rights, humanitarian interventions, and post-conflict reconciliation.
* Stephen Zunes, author of Tinderbox: U.S. Middle East Policy and the Roots of Terrorism (Common Courage Press, 2002) and widely published commentator
The three speakers will bring constructive alternatives to the expanded war.
