** Rally to Protest Keystone XL Pipeline and protect the earth’s climate **
Thousands are expected for a nationwide rally in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall to speak for the climate on February 17. They need to know the rest of the country has their backs.
This means even folks who can't make it to Washington -- especially folks who can't make it to Washington -- have a critical role to play in the rally.
BRING SIGNS! This is a GREAT time to draw attention to the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, the Artic drilling debacle and the NO COAL TRAINS movement here in Washington and in the West!
The Keystone XL Pipeline, if completed, would transport the world’s dirtiest oil from Alberta, Canada’s tar sands to refineries and ports on the U.S. Gulf Coast for export to Asia and elsewhere. It would very seriously damage the world’s climate. Many highly respected climate scientists are imploring Pres. Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline. James Hansen, probably the world’s pre-eminent climate scientist, emphasizes, “If tar sands are thrown into the mix, it is game over for the planet.”
NOTE: Simultaneously, there will be a rally for the same cause at Heritage Park, just south of 5th Ave. SW in downtown Olympia, WA.
