The Bush Administration's No Child Left Behind legislation protects military recruiter access to all public schools in America, and requires schools to hand over the names and contact information of all high school students to military recruiters.

In a recent paper in the American Journal of Public Health, Drs. Hagopian and Barker claim military recruiter behavior is "disturbingly similar to predatory grooming."  They also describe the disproportionately poor health status of young soldiers, both physical and mental, suggesting military service is a hazard for the youngest recruits.

Hagopian and Barker worked together in Seattle's Garfield High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) chapter to attempt to keep military recruiters out of their school.

GI Voice and Coffee Strong co-founder Joshua Simpson and current co-executive director Joseph Carter are relatively recent veterans who will offer perspective on their experience in the military and their observations on military recruiters in public schools.

The event is being produced by Olympia Movement for Justice and Peace and hosted by Traditions Cafe and World Folk Art.  Please spread the word about this event and make sure to bring yourself and others.
