UFPPC’s remarkably successful Sunday salon series will resume on Sun., Oct. 14, 2007, in North Tacoma. -- The Oct. 14 Sunday salon will feature a live musical performance (performances on banjo, ukelele, washboard, and double bass by the band “1928” playing a variety of tin-pan-alley tunes with vocals from the turn of the century era), followed by a discussion of Kurt Vonnegut’s life, works, and legacy with PLU prof Jason Skipper (who will bring a remarkable personal letter with self-portrait that he received from Vonnegut).[1] -- This is a UFPPC fundraiser as well as an intimate gathering in a private home. -- More information below....

WHAT: UFPPC Sunday Salon -- live music, presentation, & conversation, with refreshments WHO: "1928" (band featuring banjo, ukelele, washboard, and double bass); conversation on Kurt Vonnegut’s life and legacy with Prof. Jason Skipper of Pacific Lutheran University WHEN: Sunday, October 14, 2007 -- 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. WHERE: 4414 N. 34th St., Tacoma, WA [From Kristi Nebel] Salon Invitation UFPPC's Salon Society Second Sunday Series will begin a third season October 14, 2007, and the general public is welcome. Sunday's salon will be held at the home of Marilyn Kimmerling at 4414 N. 34th in Tacoma, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A performance on banjo, ukelele, washboard, and double bass will begin shortly after guests arrive. The band, "1928" will be playing a variety of tin-pan-alley tunes with vocals from the turn of the century era. Informal interaction will follow with refreshments, including wine and hors d'oeuvres. PLU English instructor Jason Skipper will lead a discussion on the life, works, and legacy of Kurt Vonnegut, who died in April 2007. Participants are encouraged to bring a favorite quote from Vonnegut to share aloud. While this is open to the public, it's an intimate gathering in a private home so seating is limited. Tickets which cost $15.00 may be purchased at the door on the day of the event. This is a fundraiser for United for Peace of Pierce County, whose mission is to nonviolently oppose reliance on pre-emptive unilateral military actions rather than cooperative diplomacy.
