STRYKER PROTEST -- ACTIVISM: Events planned Sat., Mar. 10 & Sun., Mar. 11 Print E-mail
Written by Mark Jensen
Sunday, 11 March 2007

Organizers of port militarization resistance released this schedule of events for the rest of the weekend on Sat., Mar. 10.[1]  --  The schedule is followed by an appeal for support by an affinity group planning civil disobedience on Sun., Mar. 11.[2]...

1.

Below is a call for support by one affinity group in particular starting tomorrow (Sun., Mar. 11 at 2:00 p.m.)

First here's what seems to be the best overall summary of things scheduled for the rest of the weekend.

Two important notes:

-- Daylight Savings Time tonight . . . so much for catching up on sleep lost during nighttime actions.

-- Things change rapidly here so beware that this schedule will evolve.

PORT MILITARIZATION RESISTANCE AFFINITY GROUP SEEKS SUPPORTIVE PRESENCE

Sunday, March 11, 2:00 p.m.
Federal Courthouse, 1717 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, WA

The majority of Americans are opposed to the quagmire in Iraq and are outraged that Bush is escalating the conflict by sending over 30,000 more U.S. troops into the middle of a hopeless civil war.

Today, Port Military Resistance members ask for your support.

Tomorrow, Sun., Mar. 11, a committed group of citizens from Olympia, Seattle, Port Townsend, and Portland intend to engage in nonviolent civil disobedience to prevent equipment from the 4th Stryker Brigade from being loaded at the Port of Tacoma on a ship bound for Iraq. This is an effective way to show support for the troops -- prevent them from being placed in a position where they may kill or be killed.

In the spirit of Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, and many others throughout history, we will engage in peaceful direct action to end our complicity in this immoral atrocity.

PMR asks you to be present at this action as an observer and witness.

If you are willing to support us, please gather at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Tacoma at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, March 11. The Courthouse is in the old Union Pacific Station on Pacific Ave, between the Tacoma Art Museum and the Washington State History Museum. Parking is available on the street, and is free on Sunday. From the Courthouse, we will move as a group to the location of the action.

Important Reminder: Daylight Savings time means the clock moves one hour ahead tonight. Don’t forget to "spring forward."

The events in Tacoma are getting significant media attention nationally and internationally. People have had enough of this war, and are looking to what is happening in Tacoma this week as a sign of hope that the end is near. Please join us as we continue to send hope to a nation and a world weary of violence.
