[From Kristi Nebel] WHAT: UFPPC Sunday Salon — play preview, discussion, & conversation WHO: Rosalind Bell, Tacoma playwright WHEN: Sunday, February 11, 2007 — 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. WHERE: 3901 N. 37th St., Tacoma, WA [From Kristi Nebel] SALON INVITATION You are cordially invited to the eight Salon Society Second Sunday on February 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 3901 N. 37th St., Tacoma. This is a fundraiser for United for Peace of Pierce County, whose mission is to nonviolently oppose reliance on pre-emptive unilateral military actions rather than cooperative diplomacy. The funds are to be used for educational purposes. Dr. Mark Jensen, professor of French at Pacific Lutheran University, will introduce the event with a short history of the Parisian salon. Rosalind Bell, a Tacoma playwright, will read from her newest creation, "New Orleans Monologues." This will be followed by discussion of the political, social, and racial implications and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (Aug. 23-21, 2005), which was the subject of a UFPPC statement on Sept. 1, 2005, entitled "Will Hurrican Katrina Awaken an America Bent on Spiritual Death?" Following a break for refreshments, Dr. Louisa Beal will facilitate with a discussion of the political, social, and racial implications and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She will present a slide-show from her experiences in New Orleans assisting rescue efforts for the Common Ground coalition, following the hurricane. Informal conversation around a spread of hors d'oeuvres, coffee, and wine will follow. The full version of "New Orleans Monologues" will be be produced by Tacoma Actors Guild in March.
