On the day the 3,000th U.S. military fatality in Iraq is announced, there will be in Tacoma a 5:00 p.m. vigil at 6th & Sprague, followed by a 6:15 p.m. reading at Associated Ministries (1224 South “I” St., Tacoma) of all the names of the American military personnel who have died in Iraq.[1]  --  The public is welcome at both the vigil and the reading of the names.  --  More information below.  --  NOTE: On Dec. 28, 2006, the number of U.S. military dead stood at 2,991....

United for Peace of Pierce County, in partnership with Veterans for Peace Chapter 134 of Tacoma, will convene a vigil at Sixth St. and Sprague Ave. in Tacoma to commemorate the deaths of 3,000 American soldiers in Iraq at 5:00 p.m. on the date of the news of the event.  The public is invited.  The candlelight vigil will last for an hour.  It will be followed at 6:15 pm by a reading of the 3,000 names of the casualties at Associated Ministries at 1224 South “I” Street in Tacoma.  The general public is also welcome to attend this ceremony.  For more information call 253-573-1504.
