CALENDAR: Downing Street Memo anniversary pro-impeachment events Print E-mail
Written by Abe DeJamminen
Friday, 22 July 2005

July 23, 2005, is the third anniversary of the Downing Street Memorandum.  --  At the urging of Rep. John Conyers (D-MI 14), the ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, the anniversary is the occasion for hundreds of gatherings of citizens around the country intent on calling attention to the ways in which the president and vice president of the United States have violated their oaths of office and deserve to be impeached and, upon conviction, removed office.  --  Below is information on events in the area; these include a Saturday afternoon session at the Seattle Labor Temple with Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA 7), and a house party in Tacoma.  --  Whether they will be as dramatic as the event scheduled to take place on Downing Street itself, where Bedford Stop the War has organized a group of actors and activists to recreate the DSM as a Mad Hatter's Tea Party remains to be seen.  --  NOTE: United for Peace of Pierce County first urged investigating the impeachment of the president (together with the vice president, the secretary of defense, and the attorney general) on May 13, 2004, then unequivocally called for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney on April 21, 2005, and reiterated that call after the publication of the first of the Downing Street Memoranda on May 19, 2005....
