If you can help with bannering to advertise this event. This is a critical need during the coming week. -- Post a flyer in your car window to advertise the event. -- Send a note to friends and family to remind them of the event. Make announcements at meetings or events that you attend in the coming week. -- Help advertise the event by bannering March 12th in various neighborhoods. For specific information, go to www.standupseattle.org/ -- Check the website www.march19.info for further details and to find out how you can help in other ways, small and large -- both before and during the day to make this a significant event. (Peacekeepers and folks to collect money are particularly needed on the day. Please let us know ASAP if you can help.)

WEDNESDAY, Mar. 9 -- "REBELS WITH A CAUSE" -- 7:00 p.m. -- The Bradford Center (700 - 108TH Ave NE, Bellevue) -- Using news clips, archival footage and recently conducted interviews to put it all in context, director Helen Garvey spins a fascinating documentary about the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the passionate, often contentious but deeply committed activist group that blazed its way through the issues of the day (Vietnam, in particular) in the 1960s. Interviewees include former senator Tom Hayden, Todd Gitlin and Bernardine Dohrn. -- After the film, we will have an open discussion about the relevance of the SDS today. How can we rebuild a student and/or mass movement for the 21st century? -- Presented by The Evergreen Peace and Justice Community and the Eastside Fellowship of Reconciliation.

FRIDAY, Mar. 11 -- FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MEANINGFUL MOVIES -- 7:00 p.m. -- Keystone Church, 5019 Keystone Place N., Seattle (Wallingford) 0.4 miles west of the I-5 50th St. Exit - Metro Bus Routes 16, 26 & 44 -- "Weapons of the Spirit"(90 min, Pierre Sauvage, 1989) -- Why, when "the world cared so little, a few people cared so much"? An inspiring true story of how thousands of ordinary French people sheltered thousands of Jews from extermination during the holocaust. "Weapons of the Spirit" is a story of amazing feats of the human spirit that ordinary people are capable of during the darkest times. It examines the question of personal responsibility, remaining faithful to one's conscience, and resisting illegitimate authority. "Weapons of the Spirit" was produced by the nonprofit Chambon Foundation, founded by Pierre Sauvage, whose mission is to explore and communicate, especially on film, such necessary lessons of hope intertwined with the Holocaust’s unavoidable lessons of despair. Also, an introduction by Bill Moyers. More information: www.chambon.org/weapons_en.htm -- Presented by Wallingford Neighbors for Peace and Justice. -- UPCOMING FILMS: For detailed info on films: snowcoalition.org/event.php?h_id=31

FRIDAY, Mar. 11 -- "NOW MORE THAN EVER" -- (The Second Annual Benefit for The Compassionate Listening Project and Seedlings of Peace Camp) -- 8:00 p.m. -- 3400 Phinney Ave., Seattle (the old Redhook Brewery) -- An Evening of Music with Brad Warren, Eva Tree, Larry Murante, Kathryn Mostow and Peter Hwosch plus a special showing of "Beyond These Narrow Borders", a documentary about peace work in the Balkans $10 suggested donation. For more information about Compassionate Listening, visit: www.compassionatelistening.org

FRIDAY, Mar. 11 -- SEATTLE LABOR CHORUS SINGALONG -- 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. -- First Church of the Nazarene -- 4401 2nd Ave NE, Wallingford -- Just South of Dick's -- Plenty of free parking -- Join singers young and old to sing songs of peace, protest, and passion at the Seattle Labor Chorus Singalong. We provide a tasty homemade dinner buffet, including dessert, along with musical fun and games, and song lyrics -- and you sing along! Children welcome. Tickets are $10-$15 (pay as you can) in advance or at the door -- but last year we packed the house, so don't be late!

Join Stand Up Seattle! Help hold, stand beside, or dance next to our large two-sided banners promoting March 19th. Stand Up! will be occupying at least two freeway/pedestrian overpasses with March 19th banners, and will be able to cover even more with your help! Call 206-323-9451 or majorVis@comcast.net to find out where to meet up with us or to let us know that you have an overpass in your neighborhood you would like to banner at. Music, Food, and Coffee! Who knew 2 hours of activism could be so much fun?

Join us to share YOUR ideas and to help us more forward on the commitment of SNOW to nonviolently oppose war. [NOTE FOR PIERCE COUNTY RESIDENTS: UFPPC is organizing a caravan from Tacoma to Seattle for the Mar. 19 rally. To join the UFPPC caravan, meet at the Tacoma Dome Park and Ride (East "G" St. & Puyallup Ave.) on the ground floor at 10:00 a.m. Carloads will be organized there to minimize gas consumption. (If you're coming separately, parking for the Seattle Center is available in the lot at 5th Ave. N. and Harrison St.) -- In Seattle, the UFPPC contingent will gather before noon at the west side of the International Fountain of the Seattle Center (where the intersection of Harrison St. & 2nd Ave. N. would be, if those streets were extended); the rally will take place at the Fisher Pavilion just to the south of the International Fountain. For the return trip, meet again at the west side of the International Fountain at 5:00 p.m.]

"VOICES IN WARTIME" -- As the Iraq War continues, the numbers of returning veterans and civilians suffering from post traumatic stress disorder grow. Millions of veterans and civilians from other conflicts still suffer from the psychological injuries of war. "Voices in Wartime" has developed a short documentary, "Beyond Wartime" which will be in theaters sometime this month. We urge you to participate in getting the word out about this film by hosting a house party to begin a dialogue about what needs to be done in our community on this issue. -- Go to www.voicesinwartime.org/VoicesInWartime to learn more about getting involved. If you decide to host a house party, let us know and we’ll make sure it gets noted in future bulletins.

"IRAQI FACES" CARDS BENEFIT SNOW YEAR -- Packets of lovely Iraqi Faces cards tied with red ribbon and enclosed in cellophane sleeves make welcome gifts all year long. Each packet contains five different, touching images of groups of Iraqi children or of a child and parent. Printed on high quality ivory paper, the photos are handsomely framed with bands of harmonizing colors. Inside each card "Peace is precious" is printed in a graceful type face and colored ink. Packets of cards sell for $10, and matching envelopes are included. -- Cards can be purchased or picked up for sale to others from the Fellowship of Reconciliation office in Woodland Park Presbyterian Church, 225 North 70th Street (at North 70th and Greenwood Avenue North). Hours are generally 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, but it's always best to call the office at 789-5565 before you come. Feel free to also call Diana Forman at 206-329-2541 if you have questions or would like to make special arrangements. -- Please consider using these cards for yourself, to sell as part of your neighborhood group's tabling efforts, to offer at events sponsored by organizations you belong to, or to give as gifts to mark holidays or special anniversaries. Best of all, every sale directly benefits SNOW and our work for peace.
