Pope Paul VI began the practice of declaring January 1 a World Day of Prayer for Peace in 1968, and John Paul II has made this a tradition. This year's communication, the current pope's 25th and, as the 83-year-old Supreme Pontiff's health fails, perhaps his last, is particularly moving -- and timely. Neither the U.S. nor Iraq is not mentioned, but they were clearly in John Paul's mind...
