"The two axial principles of our age, tribalism and globalism clash at every point except one: they may both be threatening to democracy"

I heard Benjamin Barber speak on Alternative Radio on KUOW, Seattle a few weeks back. He has much to say about the relationship, or lack thereof that the United States has with the rest of the world, and specifically the Moslem world in this case. If the book is anything like he is as a speaker, he really lays it out in a way that's easier to understand than you ever thought the world would be.
